We all want to feel good about the food we feed our families. Because of this, we recently introduced a new Country Crock recipe that we’re really proud of. It’s made with simpler ingredients you can recognize and pronounce. And we removed artificial preservatives and flavors. Families are at the heart of every decision we make. Before introducing the new recipe, we worked with loyal fans to make sure they supported the recipe, including the taste. We understand you may have some questions about our products.   • What’s the difference between margarine and a spread such as Country Crock®?

    Margarine must contain at least 80% fat. Any product containing less than 80% – like Country Crock®– is called a spread.
  • What is Country Crock®?

    Country Crock®is a delicious buttery spread that adds real country fresh taste to family recipes and is made with real, simple ingredients including delicious oils, purified water and a pinch of salt.
  • What “new” ingredients are in the New Country Crock® Calcium?

    At Country Crock®, we are committed to offering delicious foods that the whole family will enjoy and feel good about. New and Improved Country Crock Calcium with Vitamin D delivers country fresh taste with 10 percent of your daily value of Calcium in every serving. It’s also gluten free, contains no artificial flavors, and has 0g trans fat per serving. Now, our “New and Improved” recipe is made to create an even better cooking experience. We replaced tapioca starch with a commonly used ingredient, xanthum gum, to create an even better cooking experience when frying or sautéing. Whether you’re sautéing vegetables, baking a batch of delicious chocolate chip cookies, or spreading on a piece of multigrain toast, New and Improved Country Crock Calcium will bring a little more goodness to mealtime.   • How are your baking sticks different from butter?

    Our Country Crock®Salted and Unsalted Baking Sticks are made with vegetable oil, and have 45% less saturated fat than butter. Though our Baking Sticks are made with different ingredients, you can use them to replace butter 1:1 in your favorite recipes. And because our Baking Sticks have a soft and creamy texture, they mix easily straight out of the refrigerator.
  • Your Country Crock sticks say that they are good for baking. I've never used margarine in baking before. Does it work the same as butter? If a recipe calls for butter, how much margarine do I put in?

    With 79% fat, our Country Crock® Salted and Unsalted Baking Sticks are a great butter substitute for baking. Simply replace butter one-for-one with our Baking Sticks in your favorite recipes to give your cookies and cakes a delicious taste, with 45% less saturated fat than butter!
  • What ingredients are in Country Crock Original®?

    The new Country Crock® Original is made from a simple recipe including:
    • Purified Water – Helps ensure the highest quality spread!
    • Soybean Oil
    • Palm & Palm Kernel Oil – Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil Mass Balance Certified
    • Salt – Just a pinch!

  • Will Country Crock ever go back to the old spreads formulation?

    At this time, there are no plans to go back to the original formulas as Country Crock® is committed to delivering delicious foods made from real, simple ingredients and continuously improving our nutrition profiles.
  • Why are these changes being made to Country Crock®?

  • Is Country Crock® gluten-free?

    Yes, Country Crock® products are gluten-free.
  • Do I need to be concerned if I see mold in my Country Crock?

    Our research teams have done extensive testing to analyze the types of molds that could form in our products. The molds that might occur are common food molds, similar to what can happen with fresh fruit or aged bread that has been overly exposed to air. If you think you see mold in your Country Crock, do not consume it. Hang on to the tub, and call us at 1-800-579-3663 so that we can help you.
  • Does Country Crock® contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (PHVO)?

    All of our delicious Country Crock®products – including buttery spreads and sticks – are made with no partially hydrogenated oils and contain 0 grams trans fat per serving.
  • Are Country Crock® spreads Kosher?

    Yes, Country Crock® products are Kosher.
  • Why does Country Crock use palm oil in its spreads products?

    Country Crock uses palm oil and palm kernel oil to deliver its new simpler recipes with the desired consistency and texture. New Country Crock® Original, Light and Churn Style varieties are made with no artificial preservatives or flavors and contain 0g trans fat per serving.   • Did Country Crock change its formula?

    Country Crock® has not changed our products or ingredients this year. We did update our recipe to be made without artificial preservatives and flavors in 2015.
  • What may cause mold to appear in our product?

    Our Country Crock simple recipe buttery spreads in the Original, Light and Churn varieties are prepared with real, simpler ingredients and are free of artificial preservatives. Products that are free of such preservatives should be treated with a higher level of care to avoid the formation of the mold.
  • What oils are used to create Country Crock®?

    Country Crock® is made with soybean oil sourced from U.S. farmers, and small amounts of palm and palm kernel oils.
  • You mention that Country Crock® spreads and sticks are a source of “good” fat. What does this mean?

    Country Crock® spreads and sticks are made from plant-based oils and are a source of good fats like those found in avocados, almonds and walnuts. Country Crock®is also a good source of omega-3 ALA.* Country Crock®contains essential fats which help support kids’ normal growth and development, and are one good way to include good fats in your family’s diet. Expert dietary advice emphasizes optimizing the types of fat in the diet instead of reducing total fat, and replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats from oils and foods that are mainly oil, like buttery spreads. Choosing buttery spreads that contain no partially hydrogenated vegetable oil and 0g trans fat per serving, like Country Crock, instead of butter is a simple way to make good fats part of an overall healthy diet while limiting saturated fat. *Country Crock® Original spread contains 260mg of omega-3 ALA per serving (16% of the 1.6g daily value..
  • What does the “no artificial preservatives” claim mean?

    Country Crock®’s “no artificial preservatives” claim means that we do not use artificial additives (such as EDTA or potassium sorbate) in the making of our delicious Country Crock® Original, Light or Churn Style spreads. Ingredients like vinegar help to preserve the product shelf life in our new simpler recipes.
  • What steps can I take to minimize the chance I will get mold in my Country Crock?

    As with any product free of artificial preservatives, it is recommended extra care be taken to ensure prompt refrigeration of the product upon purchase, and also to refrigerate the product after each use occasion, and not leave the spread out for extended periods of time much greater than 30 minutes. This will also ensure best quality/texture of the product for spreading.
    Also, care should be taken by users not to introduce nutrients to the spread through use of multi-purpose utensils. A clean/dedicated knife should be used when spreading, topping, and cooking to ensure the best defense against mold. For example, use a separate spoon instead of using your cooking spatula to scoop the spread out of the tub.
    Following use, the opened product should be promptly refrigerated with the lid placed back on.
  • What safeguards has Country Crock then built into the product to minimize the risk of the product molding?

    Please be assured that nothing is more important to us at Country Crock than the quality and safety of our products and satisfying our consumers. That’s why we have significant checkpoints in place throughout our supply chain to ensure our products meet high quality standards.

 While our Crock Original, Light, and Churn buttery spreads are free of artificial preservatives, these products do use vinegar as a simple preservative. The highest risk of mold development is associated with how our consumers may use the product. Therefore, some common sense steps should be taken to minimize potential to introduce it into your Country Crock buttery spread.
  • What nutrition benefits are associated with Country Crock®?

  • Can I bake with salted sticks?

    Our Country Crock® Salted and Unsalted Baking Sticks are great for baking! As most recipes do not specify salted or unsalted, either one works. It’s a personal taste preference! So feel free to experiment with all of your favorite baked recipes. And because our Baking Sticks have a soft and creamy texture, they mix easily straight out of the fridge.
  • I see that you are introducing new products made with sunflower oil. What is good about sunflower oil?

  • Are your tubs recyclable?

    All of our plastic tubs and lids are recyclable.
  • Can I recycle the box for the sticks?

    Yes, the packaging for our Country Crock® Salted and Unsalted Baking Sticks is recyclable
  • Can I freeze the new Country Crock®?

    It is not recommended to freeze our delicious buttery spreads or sticks at this time.
  • What’s the best way to store Country Crock®?

    We recommend always keeping your buttery spreads and sticks in the refrigerator.
  • Can I bake with Country Crock® Spreads?

    Yes, in fact we highly encourage it! You can bake with our tub and stick formats and we offer delicious baking inspiration on our site - please visit our “Easy Baking” page.
  • How can I preserve the quality of Country Crock Spreads?

    Preservative-free spreads require special care. For best quality, we recommend using clean utensils for spreading. In addition, please ensure to place the product back in the fridge as soon as possible after use. This will help maintain freshness and product quality.
