20 Minute Fresh Tomato Sauce

Our 20 Minute Fresh Tomato Sauce is the perfect way to showcase ripe, juicy summer tomatoes. You only need 5 ingredients and a few minutes to prep. Our Plant Butter brings a rich, delicious flavor to perfect summer tomatoes. Fresh basil and a pinch of salt are the only enhancement this sauce needs.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Country Crock® Plant Butter with Olive Oil Stick, divided
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons Country Crock Plant Butter in medium saucepan. Add onion and cook over medium heat 10 minutes or until very tender, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add tomatoes and cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in remaining Plant Butter and basil. Using an immersion blender, blend mixture to desired consistency.
We like this sauce a bit on the chunky side, but you can blend to whatever consistency you like. If you don't have an immersion blender, you can easily mash the tomatoes using a potato masher, pastry blender or fork.
